Role brief

Growth Roles summary, based on the employer's posting.

What you'll do

  • Design mechanical efficiency solutions for HVAC, chillers, AHUs, cooling towers, boilers, pumps, and compressed air
  • Build Thermal Energy Storage designs, then size systems and model loads to lower peak cooling demand
  • Assess client sites, analyze energy use and mechanical performance, and turn audit results into improvements
  • Lead installation, commissioning, testing, and measurement and verification for completed efficiency projects
  • Prepare technical designs, proposals, reports, and stakeholder updates while meeting relevant standards

What you bring

  • A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Energy Management, or a related discipline
  • Three to five years working on energy efficiency, HVAC, or mechanical optimization projects
  • Working knowledge of TES, HVAC automation, and mechanical energy efficiency methods
  • Experience delivering projects through commissioning and performance validation
  • Strong HVAC, chiller, thermal management, analytical, presentation, and technical writing skills

Who this fits

This suits a mid-level mechanical engineer who can work independently while coordinating with energy analysts, electrical engineers, clients, and other project teams. You’ll be based onsite in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, need your own transport, and travel to sites when required. REM Type 2 or PMP certification, or an equivalent credential, is an advantage.

From the employer

The Energy Solutions Engineer – Mechanical at Solarvest EE is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing mechanical energy efficiency solutions, with a strong focus on HVAC systems, chillers, AHU, air compressors, boilers and Thermal Energy Storage (TES) systems. This role involves conducting technical assessments, developing customized energy-saving solutions, and ensuring the successful execution of energy efficiency (EE) projects in industrial, commercial, and municipal sectors.

Key Responsibilities

1. Energy Efficiency Solution Development

  • Design and implement mechanical energy efficiency solutions, including HVAC, chillers, AHU, cooling towers, boilers, pumps, and compressed air systems.
  • Develop Thermal Energy Storage (TES) solutions, integrating them into energy efficiency projects to optimize cooling demand and reduce peak energy consumption.
  • Perform load calculations, system sizing, and thermal modelling to enhance energy performance.

2. Technical Assessment and System Analysis

  • Conduct site assessments to evaluate existing mechanical systems for inefficiencies and potential energy-saving opportunities.
  • Analyze energy usage trends, system performance, and process inefficiencies to recommend improvements.
  • Work closely with the Energy Analyst to interpret audit findings and translate them into actionable mechanical energy solutions.

3. Project Execution and Implementation

  • Oversee the installation, commissioning, and validation of mechanical energy efficiency solutions, ensuring proper integration into client facilities.
  • Conduct performance testing and measurement & verification (M&V) to ensure that implemented solutions meet expected energy savings.
  • Collaborate with electrical energy solutions engineers to integrate mechanical and electrical energy-saving strategies for holistic EE projects.
  • Communicate with stakeholders to understand their energy goals, address their concerns, and provide regular updates on project status and performance.

4. Research and Innovation

  • Stay updated on advanced mechanical energy efficiency technologies, including next-generation TES, HVAC automation, and energy recovery systems.
  • Identify and evaluate new products, design methods, and best practices to enhance energy efficiency project outcomes.

5. Compliance and Reporting

  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations, energy efficiency act and standards, and green building certifications (e.g., ISO 50001, GreenRE, LEED).
  • Prepare and present detailed technical reports, system designs, and project proposals for internal and client review.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Energy Management, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in energy efficiency, HVAC, or mechanical system optimization projects.
  • Knowledge of Thermal Energy Storage (TES), HVAC automation, and mechanical energy efficiency strategies.
  • Experience in project execution, performance validation, and system commissioning.
  • Registered Energy Manager (REM) Type 2 or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent is a plus.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills for identifying energy-saving opportunities.
  • Excellent technical expertise in HVAC, chiller systems, and thermal energy management.
  • Ability to multi-task, willing to learn and grow, able to work systematically and demonstrate accountability.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong presentation and report-writing abilities.
  • Passion for sustainability, energy efficiency and clean energy solutions.
  • Possess own transport and willing to travel to site when necessary
